I mean, that's not correct, metrics-wise. They did 3 Kingdoms dirty with DLCs and updates, that's why people want 3K:2 next.īy the metrics they killed Three Kingdoms, they should have definitely also killed Warhammer 2 long before the launch of WH3, it was only the DLCs that made WH2 great and 3K poor. Had the Guan Du DLC also featured an inheritance rework, had the World Betrayed looked more at Vassals and satisfaction, had they actually upgraded the base game as well as adding new shiny toys it could easily have been ongoing and huge even now. Three Kingdoms has the best campaigns of any Total War game bar none, and then they just never built on it. There are many other fantasy genres to explore and we're on Warhammer Game 3. IIRC Around the time the Vampirates were released Warhammer 2 had a miserable following. *I know some people don't see 3k as a historical title, but I think it's fair to say that CA intended it to be a historical game since some of the marketing pushed the records mode as a full historical TW experience.īecause the last 3 Kingdoms game had a phenomal launch (IIRC higher than even WH:3) and a good underlying game, and then a series of disappointing-to-poor DLCs, buggy messes and reoccuring bugs like the Alliance War (allegedly fixed each and every patch update) meant they took the game out back and shot it rather than making it a decent game.īy the metrics they killed Three Kingdoms, they should have definitely also killed Warhammer 2 long before the launch of WH3, it was only the DLCs that made WH2 great and 3K poor. Has there been any other rumors about a new historical game? I don't really think that's the case but only time will tell. Thanks to the wild success of Total War: Warhammer, I'm sure there are some like me who are wondering whether CA might have decided that historical total war isn't worth the investment any more. This is from June last year, which was before the release of the historical mode for Troy, but I doubt that's what he means when he says "title". Janos: I am Janos Gaspar, I’m currently game director on the next historical title. TW.com: Hey Janos, thanks for talking with us today – can you kick off by telling us what you are doing at CA now and what you were doing back on ROME II?\ I looked through every blog post for the past year and the only mention of a new historical game was this: The last major historical title was announced about four months after Total War: Warhammer 2's release*, and I'm wondering whether we might see a similar announcement in the next few months.
